Black and white images of a bitter melon fruit

The bitter melon fruit (also known as bitter gourd) is an interesting photography study.  Its exterior texture is all bumpy, and it’s shaped like a cucumber. The inside is soft and full of seeds. It gets its name from its taste, and according to several sources the fruit has many nutritional benefits. This journal entry features a collection of black and white images of bitter melon fruit slices. These are photographed using a macro lens for extreme close-up detail.

One of the bitter melon fruit images chosen for this post reminds me of ‘The Scream’, a very recognisable and famous painting by artist Edvard Munch (Year 1893).

This is how he described the painting:

“I was walking along the road with two friends – the sun was setting – suddenly the sky turned blood red – I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence – there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city – my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety – and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature.”
