Black and white feathers

A collection of photographs of black and white feathers I found on my apartment terrace.

From my inner-city apartment windows I see the pigeons – sometimes called city pigeons or feral pigeons – gliding effortlessly by. I enjoy their gracefulness and find it mesmerising.

They fly to and rest on apartment window ledges where they do a funny bird dance. They strut back and forth, and turn around and around in circles. Which makes me giddy just watching them. Another favourite activity for the birds is to land on the air conditioner units where there’s tight corners to hide from view and mate. They make several flimsy straw and stick nests and lay small white eggs. Unfortunately, the pigeons ratio of eggs hatching isn’t great. I’ve seen one chick hatch from a total of six eggs laid over a three to four month duration.

The feathers I’ve collected to study are baby bird feathers so soft and very teeny tiny. Just beautiful. I find them on my terrace, and occasionally there’s a pretty one worth collecting to photograph. I’m guessing they are pigeon feathers as the crows, although very close by, don’t seem to visit. The black and white feathers were photographed with a macro lens for super-duper close-up detail. If you like feathers, more feather artworks can be found here.

The spiritual meaning of feathers

After a little Google search, I found a Medium article where Amanda APS writes about the spiritual meaning of coloured feathers.

“Black and white feathers: These represent protection. It can also mean you’re going through a rocky stage in your life and change is on the way. It may be time to change your behaviour and rid yourself of old habits that are holding you down spiritually, mentally and physically.”
