Walking through Newstead on Mother’s Day, I noticed how shopfronts and window displays had been arranged to acknowledge the occasion. Greeting cards covered in hearts and handwritten messages appeared alongside floral arrangements, decorative objects, textured fabrics, and carefully styled mannequins.
As I moved between stores, certain visual patterns began repeating from one display to the next. Woven textures, checked fabric, clustered flowers, ornamental details, and sentimental motifs surfaced throughout the walk, linking otherwise unrelated scenes together.
Rather than documenting the day directly, I found myself observing the visual language used to mark the occasion. The photographs became less about individual displays and more about repetition, arrangement, texture, and surface detail within everyday environments.
Moving slowly through the streets, the walk became an exercise in noticing small visual echoes between objects, materials, and displays across Newstead.
