Newstead Street Photography: Field Notes in Black and White

Field Notes: Newstead, Brisbane

Field Notes is an ongoing series of black and white observations — brief records made while walking with a camera through shifting urban and natural spaces.

Newstead is changing fast. Towers rising. Streets re-routed. The precinct feels like a work-in-progress. A warning sign, amended with one word. The official message bent, reshaped. Bright yellow hooks against scaffolding. Ordinary, but sharp against the monotone of steel and shadow. Scaffolds and barriers rise, then shift again. Nothing fixed, everything provisional. The city caught mid-construction. Signs in glass reflections. Not direct, but enough to tell you where you are. I keep looking for fragments. Not the skyline. Not the glossy renders. Just the in-between details of a city mid-shift.

For another perspective on the city, see Urban Life at Festival Place in Black and White Photography.

I explore and document urban and natural environments, often focusing on reflections, shadows, and patterns. My camera walks allow me to capture found objects and scenes that tell stories through everyday details. In my journal, I share these explorations and offer a glimpse into my process.
